SETUP / IP ROTATION

IP rotation: when to change your address and when to keep a session

When to change your IP manually, when to schedule rotation and how to avoid unnecessary reconnections.

IP rotation means changing your external IP address. The right mode depends on the task: sometimes you need to keep one address for the entire job, and sometimes you need a new one before each independent test.

When to keep your current IP

When filling out a form, working in your account or running a long test, avoid changing the IP mid-operation. Finish the task and save the result before changing the address.

Before renting, ask whether automatic rotation can be disabled and how long the address usually stays the same. A mobile network can reconnect for reasons unrelated to the schedule, so agree on session duration in advance.

When to use on-demand IP rotation

Manual IP rotation lets you choose exactly when to switch. For example, test a site with one address and record the result, then obtain a new IP and repeat the test.

With AMP, you can change your IP using a link or a bot. Ask support how this works for your connection and how long an IP change takes.

When to schedule IP rotation

Scheduled rotation works well for a series of short tests. Choose an interval that allows each test to finish before the next IP change.

If tasks take different amounts of time, start with manual IP rotation. You can then change the address after each task finishes, without unnecessary interruptions.

What happens to your session when the IP changes

Cookies and account data may remain after an IP change. Some applications may still ask you to sign in again. Check how your application behaves: IP rotation does not automatically clear your browser history.

What to check after a change

  1. Wait for reconnection to complete.
  2. Check the external IP address in the application where the proxy is configured.
  3. Make sure the page you need opens and your current session is still active.
  4. Record the result before starting the next operation.

What to ask support

Ask which IP rotation modes are available, whether you can set the interval, what happens to active connections and how often you can request a new address. This will help you choose the right mode for your tasks.

Not sure which mode to choose? Contact AMP support and tell us how you plan to use the proxy.
