BASICS / CHOOSING A PROXY

How to choose a mobile proxy for your needs

How to choose a location, carrier and connection protocol. What to ask about IP rotation before renting.

Start by defining what you need a proxy for: checking a website over a US network, testing an integration or connecting a work application. Then choose the location, carrier and connection method that fit that task.

1. Choose a location

To check a regional version of a website, first choose the country and state. This rules out connections that do not fit your task.

Services use different IP geolocation databases. Before committing to a long rental, check which country and city your target platform reports. The device's physical location may differ from the city listed in a third-party database.

2. Check the carrier and connection terms

The carrier matters for tasks involving a particular mobile network. Ask which networks are available at your chosen location, whether you get a dedicated port and whether traffic or concurrent connections are limited.

The “5G” label alone does not guarantee the speed you need. Coverage, network load and the route to the website also affect it. Test speed and latency on the services you plan to use.

3. Plan IP changes

For a long session, keeping one address throughout the task is usually more convenient. Controlled IP changes can help with a series of independent checks. Ask how changes are triggered: via a link, on a schedule or through a bot.

Also ask what happens to the current connection during rotation. Do not change the address during an important operation if your application is not designed to reconnect.

4. Check compatibility

Check which connection methods your application supports, such as HTTP or SOCKS5. If you need a connection for the entire device, a VPN configuration may be suitable. Both the application and the proxy provider must support your chosen method.

Make sure the traffic from your intended application goes through the proxy. Settings in one application do not automatically apply to others.

What to send to support

“I need a proxy for [task]. State: [name], application: [name], rental period: [period]. I need to keep the IP while working / change it on demand. Which connections are available, and how much does the rental cost?”

5. Run a quick check

After connecting, open your target website. Check which country it detects, how quickly pages load and whether your session stays active. If you need IP rotation, test that too. This will show whether the proxy suits your work.

If you are unsure about the settings, describe your task to AMP support. We'll suggest a suitable connection from those available.
